Women's Basketball Hosts SJLI as Students Return to Campus for Spring Semester

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's basketball team fell to the visiting Golden Eagles on Wednesday evening by a score of 30-59. The Golden Eagles held the Gryphons to just 13 made field goals, including only two from distance.

Notable Performers
  • Gabby Hudson led the team with seven points and added five rebounds
  • Ariana Spanopoulos connected on one of the team's two triples and pulled down two rebounds
  • Sarah Theriault connected on two of her four shots, scoring four points and totaling eight rebounds
How it Happened

The Gryphons fell behind 8-2 early, but a Colleen Coughlin triple brought the team back within a single possession and an SLC timeout to follow kept the Campbell Sports Center buzzing. Five more points by the Golden Eagles closed out the quarter and the visitors took a 13-5 lead into the second quarter. The visitors suffocating zone defense held the Gryphons to just one field goal in the second frame, meanwhile they built up a 19-point advantage, ready to avenge their early-season loss to the Gryphons. Hudson and Theriault combined for eight points early in the third quarter, but the Golden Eagles maintained a comfortable lead. Jersana Moore and Jade Ling Eng-Stewart added in scores late in the quarter, but SJLI carried a 21-point lead into the final quarter. Spanopoulos connected from deep midway through the final frame while Kendall Stephens poured in a late score, but it would not be enough to bridge the gap as the Gryphons fell, moving to 8-4 in conference play.

Up Next

The Gryphons (11-6, Skyline 8-4) will return to action on Saturday, January 24th as they host Mount Saint Mary College for a 2:00 p.m. showdown to cap an SLC basketball doubleheader. The Gryphons will look to return to the win column against the reigning Skyline Conference Champions.
