Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Starters Combine for 74 as Women's Basketball Earns Tenth Skyline Win against UMSV

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's basketball team got healthy contributions from all five starters, including 15 or more points from four of the five, as they defeated Mount Saint Vincent by a score of 77-65. The Gryphons will wrap up the season with a pair of Saturday road contests, traveling to Purchase this weekend before wrapping up the regular season at St. Joseph's Brooklyn.

Notable Performers How it Happened

Eng-Stewart got the party started for the Gryphons, connecting from distance on the first play of the game and putting the Gryphons in control. Hudson followed suit with a made jumper, but the hosts knotted the game up at five points apiece. Dorch gave the lead back to SLC with a second-chance score before Theriault got going in transition thanks to an assist from Hudson. The Dolphins once again responded, this time taking the lead by a score of 11-9 with four minutes to play in the first. Eng-Stewart scored again to tie the game before Jersana Moore and Hudson each generated turnovers, with Moore scoring herself and Hudson finding Theriault to put the Gryphons up 15-11. Hudson scored again before an Eng-Stewart steal turned into two points for the first year on the other end to keep the Gryphons rolling. The next SLC possession saw an offensive board by Moore, who found her classmate Eng-Stewart for a triple, giving the Manhattan product ten points and the Gryphons an 11-point lead after ten minutes. The Dolphins surged back in the second quarter, withstanding a Coughlin triple and two more Eng-Stewart baskets to tie the game up by the break. Four UMSV triples and a pair of late-quarter free throws sent the teams into the break knotted up at 33 points apiece.

The Gryphons regained the lead early in the third, with Dorch and Theriault taking the frame's first six points and opening up a two-possession lead. It was another Coughlin trifecta and Dorch layup in the middle of the quarter that each put SLC up by nine and forced the Dolphins to play from behind once again. A mid-quarter push by the hosts tied the game up with under a minute to play, but Dorch and Theriault ended the quarter just as it had started, each registering scores inside to send SLC into the final frame with a 60-56 advantage. After a quiet third quarter, Eng-Stewart got back on the board in the final frame, along with Hudson who went coast-to-coast. The Dolphins reduced the lead to just two points with six minutes to play, but an immediate response by the senior duo of Hudson and Dorch put the Gryphons back on top by two possessions. The Gryphons kept the pressure on for the remainder of the period, holding the Dolphins to just two points in the final four minutes of play, with a Theriault block and steals from Coughlin and Hudson closing out the win.
