Men's Tennis Kicks off Season with Conference Clash against USMMA

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's tennis team started its 2026 campaign with a home Skyline matchup against the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday, March 21st. The Gryphons fell to the visiting Mariners by a score of 1-6 as the team took the fourth flight of singles while falling in doubles play and all remaining singles flights.

The Gryphons fell at all three doubles flights despite battles at each matchup. The pairing of Jules Voorhoeve and Leon Bronshvag fell at the top flight by a score of 6-2 while Avery Romano-Villani and Benjamin Berkson met the same fate in the third flight. The closest of the doubles matchup was in the second flight as Clayton Miller and Connor Wood battled to a 6-4 scoreline against USMMA's second pairing. Three of the team's singles matchups went to three sets, including Miller and Voorhoeve in the first two flights. Miller took a 6-4 victory to start the day before falling 1-6 and 4-6 to the Mariners's top player. Voorhoeve battled back after a 1-6 defeat to tie the set, but a 6-4 victory by USMMA's Aaron Zhou won the matchup for the Mariners. Romano-Villani fell 2-6, 4-6 in the third set, but Bronshvag was victorious in the four spot with a 7-6 win to start the matchup and a 10-6 tiebreaker win to give SLC its lone point of the day. Jozef Kandrac played in the fifth singles set, falling in a pair of 0-6 sets while Gavin Wright fell 1-6, 3-6 in the final flight.
