Softball hosts Mount Saint Mary in Penultimate 2026 Contest

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence softball team fell in both ends of Friday's doubleheader against Mount Saint Mary College. The Knights moved to 11-5 in Skyline play with the pair of victories.

Notable Performers
  • Caileigh Koenig tossed all five innings of game one while also driving in the team's lone run with a pair of game-two hits
  • Shirin Pechefsky threw all five innings of game two, striking out a pair
How it Happened

In game one, the Knights jumped ahead in the first with a pair of scores, but Koenig escaped a bases-loaded jam to limit the damage and keep the Gryphons within striking distance with the top of the lineup coming up. The Gryphons went down in order in the first, but kept the Knights off the board in the second to keep the score at 2-0. The Knights would surge for eight scores in the third, capped by a three-run home run from Chloe Graham, to go up 10-0. The Knights added six more runs in the fourth, with Graham going yard again for a grand slam, and the Gryphons would remain stifled offensively as the visitors cruised to a shutout victory.

In game two, Pechefsky took the mound and set down the Knights in order to start the game as the senior induced a pair of flyouts to left fielder Olivia Richard. In the bottom half of the frame, the Gryphons pounced. Back-to-back walks put a pair of runners on base before a fielder's choice put runners on the corners with one out. A ball hit in front of the plate by Koenig ended up bringing Johnsen around to put the Gryphons on the board. The Knights escaped the inning with no more damage, but would go down in order in the second to remain scoreless. Miriam Kanter-Goodell got on via a leadoff walk in the second, but three consecutive strikeouts from MSMC's Grace McDonald brought the Knights back up to bat, trailing by just one run. After a pair of runners reached base for MSMC, Autumn Strobach singled to bring around a pair of scores and put the visitors ahead 2-1 with only one out. The visitors exploded offensively after grabbing the lead, plating nine runs as Graham posted a third home run for the day. The visitors added six more scores in the following inning to secure a second five-inning victory.

Up Next

The Gryphons (4-28, Skyline 2-14) will return to action on Saturday as the team returns to action in Bronxville for its final two games of the season, honoring a trio of seniors on Senior Day.
