Women’s Cross Country Concludes Regular Season

Race Results

WATERFORD, Conn.
—With first-year runner Mary Kauffman (Marblehead, Mass., Marblehead) again in front, Sarah Lawrence College women's cross country concluded its regular season by racing at the 2012 Connecticut College Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. Though Sarah Lawrence managed only a 19th-place finish, four Gryphons posted their fastest speed of the year, despite the team's competition on a 6K course.

Kauffman led the squad for the fifth straight week, sweeping every regular-season race except the year's opener. Her time of 24:27 was good enough to crack the top 100 runners in a field of more than 240 competitors.

Sarah Lawrence's No. 2 runner, Pauline Stanfiel (South Bend, Ind., John Adams) finished the race in 26:33, besting more than 50 opponents. Sophomore Elizabeth Emery (Mexico, N.Y., Mexico) followed with a finish of 28:02, while first-year runner Emelyn Hicks (Palo Alto, Calif., Homeschooled) stopped the clock in 30:24. All three runners completed the six kilometer course at a clip faster than their 5K personal bests.

First-year runner Katie Zimmerman (Maplewood, N.J., Columbia) and senior Taylor Zansberg (Scotch Plains, N.J./Solomon Schechter) ran together for much of the race and crossed the line with an identical 30:37 performance; Zansberg's pace would have earned her a 5K season-best.

Rounding out the Gryphons, junior Eliza Myers (Brookline, Mass., Brookline) finished Saturday's race in 35:51, which would have broken the 30-minute barrier on a standard 5K course.

Sarah Lawrence concludes this year's campaign at the 2012 Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship. This year's event is hosted by the league at Bard College on Sunday, Oct. 21, at noon.
