BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—The Gryphons defended their unbeaten conference record on Tuesday, as Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball swept Yeshiva University, 3-0, in a Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) match on Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center.
Sarah Lawrence (15-12, 4-0 HVWAC) inches closer to a league regular-season title, while Yeshiva (2-12, 1-4 HVWAC) has lost eight straight matches.
In the opening set, Sarah Lawrence took a 6-2 lead, but Yeshiva crept back into the match to tie the score at 13-13. The Maccabees took their largest lead at 17-14 but the Gryphons responded to make it a 19-19 ball game. From there, the teams exchanged blows until Sarah Lawrence finally clinched a 25-23 set. Kitty O'Sullivan (Los Angeles, Calif., Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy) landed six kills to lead all players in the set.
Yeshiva rattled the Gryphons by stealing a 6-0 lead in the second set. After the teams exchanged several points, rookie
Jomana Abdallah (Anaheim, Calif., Fairmont Prep Academy) pitched in three service aces to help Sarah Lawrence string together 10 straight points and convert an 11-6 deficit into a 16-11 advantage. With momentum in their corner, the Gryphons kept up the pressure en route to a 25-18 set.

Brooklynn Moore (Oakland, Calif., Santa Catalina) served five straight Sarah Lawrence points to open the third set, and both Abdallah and first-year player
Zoë Spanbroek (Boca Raton, Fla., Saint Andrew's) contributed seven digs to protect the Gryphons' lead. With their attack in full force, Sarah Lawrence posted 14 kills and closed out a 25-14 set to seal the 3-0 victory.

With a HVWAC regular-season title at stake, the Gryphons host St. Joseph's College Brooklyn at Noyse Court on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Golden Bears tout a 5-0 league record, and Thursday's winner will pocket the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in the league's championship tournament.
