BROOKLYN, N.Y.—In day two of competition, Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball split its matches at the Jay Street Challenge at Jacobs Gymnasium on Saturday. Sarah Lawrence downed York College, 3-1, before falling to Montclair State, 3-0, to capture fourth place at the event.

In the Gryphons' first match of the day, York College (3-7) jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the first set and cruised to a 25-17 victory, on track to repeat its win over Sarah Lawrence (1-5) last Thursday.

The Gryphons, however, turned the match around in the second set, when first-year player Zoë Spanbroek (Boca Raton, Fla., Saint Andrew's) served ten straight points for Sarah Lawrence, turning a 14-14 tie into a 24-14 rout before clinching the stanza, 25-15.

Sarah Lawrence carried its momentum into the third set, which played more evenly for both squads. The set saw four lead changes and 12 ties before sophomore Xina Graham-Vannais (Newtown, Pa., George School) was able to put away the set on her service, 26-24.

The fourth set was in control of the Gryphons throughout, as Sarah Lawrence blew open a 14-3 margin and served consistently to escape the match with a 25-17 set and clinch the team's first victory of the season.

Setter Brooklynn Moore (Oakland, Calif., Santa Catalina) finished the match with 18 assists, while Spanbroek had seven aces, and Jomana Abdallah (Anaheim, Calif., Fairmont Prep Academy) made nine digs.

In the second match of the day, Montclair State (12-3) pounded away at the Sarah Lawrence defense. The Red Hawks racked up 37 kills in the match to only 12 from the Gryphons. Sarah Lawrence had less trouble with errors than in previous matches, but Montclair pulled away with a 25-15, 25-13, 25-16 victory.

For her weekend efforts, sophomore Molly Busk (Corbett, Ore., Corbett) was named to the all-Tournament team.

Sarah Lawrence returns to Bronxville for its first home match on Tuesday, when the Gryphons host Maritime College at 7 p.m. in Campbell Sports Center. The match will be the school's first contest on newly-renovated Noyse Court, a project that was completed in late August.
