ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—Gryphon
Mary Kauffman (Marblehead, Mass., Marblehead) became the first Gryphon to break the 20-minute mark on a 5 km course, as she led Sarah Lawrence College cross country to a sixth-place team finish at the Bard College Invitational on Saturday.
Kauffman, the reigning Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Runner of the Week, set a program record with her time of 19:48, a blistering pace of 6:23 per mile. After leading the race through the first mile, she finished in fifth place among all runners and took 48 seconds off of her previous team record of 20:36 set last weekend.
Behind Kauffman, first-year runner
Pauline Stanfiel (South Bend, Ind., John Adams) took 1:22 off her time from last week and finished with a mark of 22:44. Her time was good enough for 42nd place in a field of more than 120 student-athletes. Sophomore
Sarah Janosky (Pittsburgh, Pa., Pittsburgh CAPA) followed close behind in 49th place with her run of 23:19, a 44-second improvement over last week.
Sophomore
Elizabeth Emery (Mexico, N.Y., Mexico) took 54th place with a time of 23:33, bettering her previous run by nearly a minute.
Katie Zimmerman (Maplewood, N.J., Columbia) (25:17) and
