Women's Cross Country Performs at MSMC Invite

NEWBURGH, N.Y.
—Led by a fifth-place finish by first-year runner Mary Kauffman (Marblehead, Mass., Marblehead), Sarah Lawrence College women's cross country secured a top-10 finish at the MSMC Knight Invite, hosted by Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday. The Gryphons took 6th place overall in the field of 15 NCAA Division II and Division III programs.

Kauffman's stellar performance saw her run among the race's leaders throughout. The rookie finished the challenging 5K course in a time of 21:18, less than half a minute behind the top runner. Kauffman also finished tops among all runners from Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) programs.

First-year runner Pauline Stanfiel (South Bend, Ind., John Adams) was the next Gryphon across the line, securing a 41st-place time of 23:58. Sophomore Elizabeth Emery (Mexico, N.Y., Mexico) also finished in the top half of the field, earning 62nd place in a time of 25:02.

Sophomore Sarah Janosky (Pittsburgh, Pa., Pittsburgh CAPA) came to the finish in a time of 25:37, and first-year runner Katie Zimmerman (Maplewood, N.J., Columbia) rounded out Sarah Lawrence's scorers with a mark of 26:40.

Emelyn Hicks (Palo Alto, Calif./Homeschooled) clocked in at 27:05 in her first collegiate race, and Taylor Zansberg (Scotch Plains, N.J./Solomon Schechter) finished in 28:14. Eliza Myers (Brookline, Mass., Brookline) took five minutes off her personal best with her 29:45 performance, while Maria Snellings (Washington, D.C./Edmund Burke School) posted a mark of 34:26 in her first-ever race.

The Gryphons' sixth-place finish was best among HVWAC teams, besting Albany College of Pharmacy, College of New Rochelle and Culinary Institute of America.

Sarah Lawrence returns to action next weekend, as the Gryphons head to the RPI Saratoga Invitational on Sat., Oct. 6. The race is scheduled to start at noon.
