BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—The Gryphons' extended their win streak to four matches, as Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball secured a pair of wins, defeating Culinary Institute of America, 3-1, and John Jay College Of Criminal Justice, 3-0, on Saturday at Noyes Court.
Sarah Lawrence (6-8, 1-0 HVWAC) has now won 12 of its last 13 sets and earns its first Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) victory with Saturday's win over Culinary (3-3, 1-1 HVWAC). John Jay (1-7) has been swept in its last three matches.
In the opening set against Culinary, Sarah Lawrence opened up a 6-1 lead and expanded the advantage to 10-3. The Steels crept back at 20-15, but the Gryphons clinched a 25-20 set. Sophomore
Kitty O'Sullivan (Los Angeles, Calif., Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy) contributed a team-high three kills, while
Xina Graham-Vannais (Newtown, Pa., George School) added four digs.
The second set played tighter than the first, as Sarah Lawrence pulled away at 9-5 but Culinary cut the margin at 12-11. The Gryphons rattled off an 8-2 run to pull away for good, closing out the 25-14 set. First-year player
Zoë Spanbroek (Boca Raton, Fla., Saint Andrew's) put away a team-best three kills in the set.
Culinary took control of the match in the fourth set, as the Steels rattled off five-straight points to take an 11-6 lead. With Culinary still in front, senior Rachel Marcucilli (Sandy Hook, Conn./Concord) served up four-straight aces to clinch a 25-15 set to fend off the sweep.
Sarah Lawrence retorted with a 6-0 run to start the fourth and never looked back. The Gryphon lead soon ballooned to 10-1, and Sarah Lawrence closed out the match with a 25-7 set.

Jomana Abdallah (Anaheim, Calif., Fairmont Prep Academy) and classmate Spanbroek shared a match-high nine kills, while setter
Brooklynn Moore (Oakland, Calif., Santa Catalina) contributed 24 assists. Libero
Molly Busk (Corbett, Ore., Corbett) notched a season-high 19 digs, while O'Sullivan added 16 and Graham-Vannais tacked on 14 digs.
Against John Jay, the Gryphons took a 14-7 opening-set lead and cruised to a 25-16 opening set. Busk served up three aces in the set, while Abdallah and Spanbroek each had two kills.
The second set saw Busk total eight more digs, while O'Sullivan and Spanbroek landed four kills each, keeping the Gryphons firmly in control of the eventual 25-17 set.
John Jay stole an 8-1 lead in the third set and looked to pick up its first set of the day, but Busk soon landed three aces in a four-point span, while O'Sullivan served six straight points. Sarah Lawrence took the lead for good with an 11-1 run to take a 12-9 edge. Abdallah contributed a pair of aces, and despite a 9-2 rally by John Jay, Sarah Lawrence closed out the 25-21 set for its second win of the day.
Spanbroek led all players with eight kills in the second match, while Moore tacked on 22 assists. Busk (13) and Spanbroek (10) each had double-digit digs, while Busk contributed a match-high seven aces.
Sarah Lawrence rounds out its homestand when the team hosts Pratt Institute in an HVWAC contest on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
