NEWARK, N.J.—Sarah Lawrence College men's cross country concluded the 2014 season at the Nick Russo Halloween Classic, hosted by New Jersey Institute of Technology on Sunday, Nov. 2.

In the fun-run format, teams competed without scoring as a squad with many runners selecting to dress in costume to celebrate the holiday.

Four Gryphons made the trip to New Jersey for the race. Sophomore Pat Newsom (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) led the Gryphons across the line for the second time in three races, finishing in 19:04.9 for 26th place. A fraction of a second behind, rookie Daniel Higinbotham (Alpharetta, Ga./Homeschooled) placed 27th on the day. Both Gryphons were recognized after the race for their top-30 performance.

Sophomore Justin Heftel (Spokane, Wash./Saint George's School) posted his best 5K performance of the season, and rookie Jules Christeson (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco Waldorf) was only 20 seconds off his personal best.

Sarah Lawrence will return to training in the spring season and is slated to run three races in April. The Gryphons will return to the trail in August 2015 with their next official race tentatively scheduled for Friday, Sept. 4.
