Meet ResultsSTATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—With all four of five Gryphons setting collegiate 5K personal bests, Sarah Lawrence College men's cross country competed at the College of Staten Island Invitational at Clove Lakes Park on Sunday.
Among the field of 21 teams, SLC split the field with an 11th place showing, beating out Skyline Conference rival Old Westbury as well as former HVIAC foes Berkeley, Medgar Evers, St. Joseph's Brooklyn and Vaughn.
Rookie
Daniel Higinbotham (Alpharetta, Ga./Homeschooled) paced the Gryphons for the fourth straight race, crossing the line in 19th place with a time of 18:17.5.
Sophomore
Pat Newsom (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) took four minutes off his 5K time from 2013, posting a mark of 19:29.0 for 53rd place among 173 runners. Classmate
Justin Heftel (Spokane, Wash./Saint George's School) also hit the top 100, finishing in 21:26.1 for 97th place on the day.
Sophomore
Jacob Zhu (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Jianping) was the next Gryphon to finish, recording a time of 22:23.0, and rookie
Jules Christeson (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco Waldorf) rounded out the squad less than a minute later in 22:58.2.
Sarah Lawrence returns to action on Saturday when the Gryphons travel to the Mount Saint Mary College Knight Invite on Oct. 4.
