Men's Soccer vs. Valley Forge Declared "No Contest"

UPDATED: In a decision by the NCAA Soccer Rules Committee, Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer vs. University of Valley Forge has been declared "no contest." The game was concluded at the end of regulation time, and no overtime was played. This was determined to be a violation of NCAA rules in the sport, and the contest will not be included in either team's statistics or W/L records.

—With the Gryphons' second shutout of the season, Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer came away with a 0-0 tie against non-conference opponent University of Valley Forge at Tibbetts Brook Park on Thursday.

SHUTTING OUT THE OPPONENT
With the tie, Sarah Lawrence earns its second shutout of the season. The feat ties the Gryphons' season record of two shutouts set in 2011. The 0-0 draw is also the first scoreless tie in the men's team's history.

FIRE AWAY
Rookie Colin Berg (Franklin, Mass./Mount Saint Charles Academy) led the Gryphons with four shots in the first half, putting three on target. First year Mohamed Camara (Macenta, Guinea/New World) added three shots in the first half, as the Green and White totaled 11 shots in the period. In the second half, sophomore Finn MacMillan (London, U.K./Bryanston) led the team with four shots.

Sarah Lawrence out-shot Valley Forge by a 19-5 margin. On the day, Berg, Camara and MacMillan each recorded a match-high of five shots. Varun Kelkar (Nagpur, India/Jenks), Juan Sucre (Caracas, Venezuela/ASFM (Monterrey, Mexico)), Ron Leiferman (Miami, Fla./Coral Gables) and Leopole Brekke also tallied shots in the contest.

ON DEFENSE
Rookie Sean Garrett (Reston, Va./Flint Hill School) played a complete game for the Gryphons, while starters Roland Wynter (New York, N.Y./Lower Manhattan Arts Academy) and Karem SmithStone contributed to the shutout. In goal, senior James Berry (New York, N.Y./Kent) saved the Patriots' only shot on-goal.

FOR THE PATRIOTS
Valley Forge was dismissed still in search of the Patriots' first win of the season. Alan Verone Jr. made 10 stops in his first shutout of his career.

OCTOBER AHEAD
Flipping the page to the second half of the season, SLC faces six Skyline opponents, including conference newcomer St. Joseph's College Brooklyn, in the Gryphons' final eight games. Sarah Lawrence will also take on non-conference rivals Cooper Union and York College (N.Y.).

UP NEXT
Sarah Lawrence hits the road for three straight Skyline games. The road trip starts with a visit to Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday.
