MOVIN' ON UPSarah Lawrence's 10th place finish is one spot better than the Gryphons' performance in 2014. SLC finished behind Baruch College and Brooklyn College last year but surpassed the two opponents who took 13th and 16th, respectively, in 2015.
RELIABLE ROCCAFORTEFor the fourth consecutive week, rookie
Zack Roccaforte (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) was SLC's first runner across the finish line. The first year Gryphon won a late sprint to beat out his nearest competitor by 0.4 second, earning 29th place with a time of 31:25. The time moves him up to fourth place on the team's Van Courtlandt 8K record list.
FLYING GRYPHONSJunior
Pat Newsom (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) was the Gryphons' No. 2 runner for the fifth time this season. Newsom was just six spots behind Roccaforte, earning 35th place with a time of 31:53. His time was 49 seconds faster than his previous run on the course at the Baruch Invitational on Sept. 7. Rookie
Ari Runanin-Telle (Fairfax, Va./Sir Francis Drake) was SLC's next harrier to finish. He set an 8K personal best with a time of 34:36, good for 74th place.
RUNNING TOGETHERSophomore
Daniel Higinbotham (Alpharetta, Ga./Homeschooled) and rookie
Vili Lehmann Boddicker (Encino, Calif./L.A. County HS for the Arts) were side by side for most of the 5 mile course. On the final straightaway, Higinbotham pulled away to earn 83rd place with a mark of 35:26. Lehmann Boddicker finished five seconds and two spots behind in 35:31, two and a half minutes faster than his debut on the course at the start of the season.
UP NEXTSarah Lawrence has one more tune-up race before the start of the postseason. The Gryphons will compete at the St. Joseph's Long Island Invitational on Saturday, October 17 before heading to the Skyline Championship on October 25.
