MAKING A MOVEThe SLC men placed fourth of eight teams, showing definitive improvement over a 10th-place finish (of 13) in 2014.
DANIEL HIGINBOTHAM (Alpharetta, Ga., Homeschooled) Higinbotham was the day's top Gryphon. The sophomore secured 14th place with a time of 32:13. Though his time was 1:35 slower than his collegiate debut last season, all signs point to Higinbotham retaining his position as SLC's lead runner.
PAT NEWSOM (South Bend, Ind., John Adams)Newsom joined Higinbotham in the top 20, finishing in 19th place in 32:42. The junior's effort was just over a minute faster than his 2014 season debut on the same course. He finished one spot better than the final scoring runner of the day's fastest team.
ZACK ROCCAFORTE (Albuquerque, N.M., Albuquerque Academy)In his collegiate debut, rookie Roccaforte reached 22nd place, crossing the line in 33:06. With his first race, he enters the SLC record book as the fifth-fastest Gryphon on the Van Courtlandt course and the ninth-fastest overall.
CALEB JASTER (New Hampton, N.H., Sant Bani)Jaster made his return to the race course after missing the 2014 season to study abroad. The 2012 all-conference runner placed 44th in a time of 37:28.
VILI LEHMANN BODDICKER (Encino, Calif., L.A. County HS for the Arts) Lehmann Boddicker was the Gryphons' final scoring runner, taking 48th place in 38:33. His time was the fourth-fastest among SLC rookies in season openers since 2013.
JUSTIN HEFTEL (Spokane, Wash., Saint George's School) Heftel was the Gryphons' final runner across the line, taking 57th with a performance of 40:36. The junior continued to be a consistent member of the squad as the only SLC harrier to compete in the team's three most-recent season openers.
