Men's Cross Country Earns Third at NYIT

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.—On Saturday, Sarah Lawrence College men's cross country placed third out of four teams at the 2016 New York Institute of Technology Invitational.

TOP GRYPHONS
Racing against a trio of NCAA Division II programs, two Gryphons placed among the top half of the field. Sophomore Zack Roccaforte (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) recorded a season-best time of 31:29 on the 8K course to earn 10th place overall. Less than a minute behind, senior Pat Newsom (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) captured 13th place, clocking in at 32:11, two minutes faster than his previous performance at the same distance.

OTHER PERFORMANCES
Junior Daniel Higinbotham (Alpharetta, Ga./Homeschooled) placed 20th in 34:14. Rookie Nathaniel Gabor (Amherst, Mass./Amherst-Pelham Regional) ran a personal best at the distance, slipping just under 7:00/mile pace to take 22nd in 34:20. Rookie Bill Chang (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge) earned 33rd place, crossing the line in a personal-best 44:42.

Next weekend, Sarah Lawrence returns to the team's training grounds at Van Courtlandt Park. The Gryphons will run at the York Invitational on September 25.
