Pat Newsom (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) placed 14th—one of two top-20 performances by the Gryphons—leading Sarah Lawrence College men's cross country to an eighth-place finish at the Baruch Invitational at Van Courtlandt Park on Sunday.

Newsom averaged 6:20 per mile to clock in at 31:26 over the 8K course, earning 14th place. The senior Gryphon finished as the team's top runner for the fourth time in his career. Behind him, junior
Daniel Higinbotham (Alpharetta, Ga./Homeschooled) kept pace and placed 18th with a time of 31:26; he has placed among the top 20 in each of the past three editions of the race.
NEWCOMERS
Sophomore
Zack Roccaforte (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) began the 2016 season with a 25th-place finish in 32:24. In his collegiate debut,
Nathaniel Gabor (Amherst, Mass./Amherst-Pelham Regional) earned 42nd place (34:52), and
Bill Chang (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge) rounded out the team in 87th (51:47).
