St. Joseph’s Long Island Takes Two from Softball

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence softball team made its 2019 Mary Levine Field debut Saturday against St. Joseph's Long Island. The Gryphons lost both games, falling 4-0 in the morning contest and 9-4 in the nightcap.

TOP GRYPHON PERFORMERS
Tess Carrier had a strong afternoon at the plate, going 5-for-7 (.714) with one run scored. Mikayla Cunningham went 3-for-5 (.600) with a RBI, while Hannah Akin batted .429 (3-for-7) with one run scored.

Karissa McAuley, Zoe Kim and Tiffany McBrayer each recorded two hits, while Mackenzie Mindish drove in a pair of runs.

The Eagles, picked to finish second in the Preseason Poll, got on the board in the third inning with one run, and plated three more in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run homerun.

St. Joseph's scored one run in the opening inning, but the Gryphons plated three runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead, highlighted by a two-run double from Mindish and a RBI single from Carrier.

The Eagles regained the lead with a four-run third inning. Sarah Lawrence got a run back in the fourth, thanks to a RBI single from Cunningham up the middle. St. Joseph's Long Island answered with two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and one more in the seventh to secure the series sweep.
