Softball Splits Non-Conference Twinbill with New Rochelle

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with New Rochelle Wednesday at Mary Levine Field. The Gryphons lost the first game, 12-0, but bounced back for a 5-2 victory in the nightcap.

TOP GRYPHON PERFORMERS
Mackenzie Mindish batted .800 (4-for-5) on the day with three RBIs and one run scored. Zoe Kim went 3-for-6 with two runs scored, while Baylie Petit finished with three hits and one run batted in.

Tiffany McBrayer and Tess Carrier each recorded two hits and scored one run.

New Rochelle, who entered the day 4-0 against Skyline opponents, scored in each of the first three innings of play. The Blue Angels plated three runs in the opening frame, one run in the second inning and two more in the third inning.

New Rochelle extended its lead with a six-run sixth inning to secure the game one victory.

The Blue Angels scored two runs in the first inning, but Sarah Lawrence answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Mindish tied the game with a two-out, two-run single, and later rounded the bases for the go-ahead score off a single from Petit.

Sarah Lawrence added insurance in the second inning with two more runs. Karissa McAuley doubled to left field to drive in a runner, followed by a single from Mindish on the next at-bat to make it a 5-2 score.

McAuley earned her seventh win in the circle, tossing a complete game. The junior allowed six hits, while the two runs scored were unearned.

Sarah Lawrence returns to action Thursday with a Skyline doubleheader at Mount Saint Mary. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
