Softball Riding Six Game Winning Streak After Sweep of Yeshiva

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence softball team capped off a perfect 6-0 week with a pair of wins over Yeshiva at Randall's Island. The Gryphons won the first game, 5-1, and exploded offensively for a 20-4 victory in the nightcap. With the sweep, the Gryphons move above .500 with an overall record of 12-11.

TOP GRYPHON PERFORMERS
Sarah Lawrence batted .442 as a team, scoring 25 runs on 23 hits. 10 Gryphons had at least one hit and one RBI on the day. Overall, every Gryphon who played reached base.

Bailey Nguyen combined to hit .750 in the two games, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs scored and three walks. Mikayla Cunningham batted .750 (3-for-4) with four runs batted in.

Mackenzie Mindish batted
.667 with two hits, four RBIs, three runs scored and two stolen bases. Hannah Akin batted .500 (4-for-8) with three RBIs and four runs scored, while Baylie Petit and Zoe Kim had three hits apiece.

Tess Carrier drove in three runs, while Skylar Vallarta drove in two. Rebecca Roberts had one RBI and one run scored, while Alison Thorson rounded the bases for the second time in her collegiate career.

Karissa McAuley improved to 6-3 in the circle, tossing a complete game with six strikeouts while allowing just two hits. The junior finished the week 3-0 with a 1.50 ERA.

Delaney Parker was the Gryphons' game two hurler, going the distance with five strikeouts in the win.

The Maccabees scored the game's first run in the opening frame for a 1-0 lead.

Sarah Lawrence, coming off a pair of sweeps over Baruch and Lehman, scored two runs in the second inning to take the lead. Nguyen rounded the bases on a single from Zartman-Ball, who later the rounded the bases on a two-out single from Cunningham.

The Gryphons scored a run in the sixth inning, credited by a RBI from Cunnigham, and tacked on two more runs in the seventh on RBIs from Nguyen and Petit to lock up the win.

Sarah Lawrence 20, Yeshiva 4

Sarah Lawrence opened the game with a pair of runs, but the Maccabees countered with three in the bottom of the frame for an early lead.

The Gryphons continued to attack, scoring five runs in the second inning, nine in the third and four more in the fourth to secure the series sweep.

It's the second game of the week for Sarah Lawrence in which the squad has scored 20 or more runs. It was the fifth 20-run performance by the Gryphons in program history. Sarah Lawrence drew 15 walks in game two, the fourth most walks in a game in team history.
