Stand-Out Performances as Gryphons Get Their Feet Wet

Bronxville, NY - November 14, 2011

The Gryphons swam their first dual meets of the season at home last week, going 1-1 for the women's team and 0-2 for the men's.

Both the women's and men's teams lost to Mount Saint Mary on Thursday, November 10, with final tallies of 88-112 and 54-84 respectively.

On Saturday, November 12, the women faired better against Mount Saint Vincent, ending the day 72-55 over the Dolphins. The men's team ended with a loss to Mount Saint Vincent, 69-87.

Although both meets were against teams outside the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference last week, two swimmers on the women's team were recognized for their achievements. First Year Rowan Schoales (Denver, Colo./Denver School of the Arts) was selected as HVWAC's 'Swimmer of the Week' after winning three events for the week and setting top times in the conference for the 50 and 100 Freestyle.

First Year Sarah Lenson (Napa, Calif./Sonoma Academy) was also recognized by the conference as HVWAC's "Rookie of the Week," earning the nod by making "significant contributions in the distance events, winning the 1000 Free and second in the 500 Free against Mount Saint Vincent."
On the men's side, Men's and Women's Head Coach Eric Mitchell noted stand-out swimmer sophomore Doug Rubenstein (Los Angeles, Calif./Hamilton) for improving his times meet-to-meet and winning two individual events against Mount Saint Vincent, the 50 and 100 Freestyle.

Next up, the Gryphons will be swimming at home against the College of New Rochelle
on Friday, November 18, at 7pm.
