Women's Tennis Knocks off Yeshiva, 6-3

EDGEWATER, N.J.—
The Gryphons picked up their second straight win as Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis defeated Yeshiva University, 6-3, in a non-conference match at Binghamton Racquet Club on Sunday.

Sarah Lawrence (6-4) has now won back-to-back matches, while Yeshiva (3-6) has lost three of its last four contests.

In doubles action, Sarah Lawrence began the match by scoring two of the three available points. The Gryphons' top partnership of first-year player Nora Landes (Los Angeles, Calif., Cleveland/Humanities Magnet) and sophomore Kayla Pincus (Shaker Heights, Ohio, Shaker Heights) scored an 8-4 win in the No. 1 position. First-year player Lane Garber (Los Altos, Calif., Los Altos) and sophomore Mary Kairidi (Thessaloniki, Greece, Anatolia College) won the No. 3 matchup , 8-5.

Yeshiva's first point on the board came as Julia Shrier (Rochester, N.Y., Ora Academy) and Galila Shapiro (Englewood, N.J., Frisch) won the No. 2 doubles match, 8-6.

In singles action, Pincus quickly added the Gryphons' third point, winning the No. 3 match, 6-2, 6-1. Rachel Shapiro (Riverdale, N.Y., Yeshiva H.S. for Girls) responded for the Maccabees by taking the No. 2 position, 6-0, 6-1.

With Sarah Lawrence leading 3-2, Landes closed out her hard-fought match in the top singles slot, defeating her opponent, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.

Needing one more point to clinch the victory, sophomore Katie Voss (San Rafael, Calif., West Salem (Ore.)) and Garber had little trouble sealing the win for Sarah Lawrence. Voss won the No. 4 match, 6-4, 6-4, while Garber took the No. 5 match 6-4, 6-3.

In the final match on the court, Yeshiva's Shani Mesica edged Kairidi in a super-tiebreaker, 4-6, 7-6(7-4), (10-7), to earn the Maccabees a third team point.

Sarah Lawrence is set to close out its regular season when the Gryphons host Cooper Union on Monday at Andrews Tennis Courts. Match start is slated for 6:30 p.m.
