In the relay-only format, Sarah Lawrence took fifth-place among six teams and showcased improved speed and talent in the team's 2012-13 debut.
The first race of the evening saw the Gryphons take down the oldest school record in the brief history of the young program. In the 200 medley relay, the team of
Paul Latislaw (Van Nuys, Calif., CHAMPS Charter),
Eben Woodward (Los Angeles, Calif., Notre Dame),
Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas, Aledo) and
Cameron Rudd (Portland, Ore.) posted a time of 2:04.65, beating the Gryphons' previous best of 2:12.56 set in 2010.
Later in the meet, the same rookie foursome teamed to best the Sarah Lawrence record in the 200 freestyle relay. The group clocked in at 1:47.52, securing fourth place in the race and surpassing the previous team record of 1:53.22 set in 2011.
In the squad's penultimate race of the day, Latislaw, Woodward, Martinez and Rudd took their position atop the record board in the 400 medley relay, smashing the previous mark of 6:07.49 with their race of 4:43.28.
SUNY Old Westbury walked away as the overall champion of the meet, while Elms College and Mount Saint Mary College rounded out the top three.
