Final Brackets
FLUSHING, N.Y.—Backed by the champion partnership of
Lane Garber (Los Altos, Calif., Los Altos) and
Sarah Fiordaliso (Amherst, N.Y., Sweet Home), Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis finished as runner-up at the 2012 Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Tennis Championship at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Saturday.
Sarah Lawrence's season concludes with a 6-4 overall record, matching the team's mark from last season. Pratt Institute and the Gryphons finished as tournament champion and runners-up, respectively, for the second-straight season.
Top-seeded Garber and Fiordaliso began their No. 3 doubles championship run by taking down their opponents from College of New Rochelle, 8-1, in the semifinal round. In the final, the Gryphons faced pressure from Pratt's pair, but Sarah Lawrence's first-year players ultimately triumphed in 8-4 fashion.
Following the tournament, Garber and Fiordaliso were honored as tournament champions, while Sarah Lawrence senior
Maddy Dessanti (Teaneck, N.J., Teaneck) and rookie
Nora Landes (Los Angeles, Calif., Cleveland/Humanities Magnet) were honored as all-conference selections.
In No. 1 doubles action, Landes and
Kayla Pincus (Shaker Heights, Ohio, Shaker Heights) won their semifinal match over St. Joseph's College Brooklyn, 8-3. Despite scoring an early break point to take a 2-0 lead, the Gryphons were unable to hold on and fell to Pratt, 8-4.
Sarah Lawrence's No. 2 pair of
Katie Voss (San Rafael, Calif., West Salem (Ore.)) and Dessanti cruised to an 8-1 win in their semifinal match against Vaughn College but Pratt again proved too much to handle, as the Cannoneers won the title, 8-2.
In singles action, the Gryphons scored wins in four semifinal matches, including three by shutout, while Pratt won all six individual flights.
Voss won her semifinal match, 8-0, over Vaughn in the No. 4 flight, while in the No. 5 flight, Garber routed her St. Joseph's foe, 8-0.
In No. 6 singles, Fiordaliso added an 8-0 win over St. Joseph's, and Dessanti was Sarah Lawrence's fourth finalist, winning 8-2 at No. 2 singles.
After Pratt and Sarah Lawrence, New Rochelle finished third, while St. Joseph's and Vaughn rounded out the field.
