Fiordaliso Named HVWAC Rookie of the Week

NEW YORK—Sarah Lawrence College tennis player Sarah Fiordaliso (Amherst, N.Y., Sweet Home) has been recognized as Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Tennis Rookie of the Week for the period ending October 7, as announced by the league on Tuesday.

On Saturday, Fiordaliso improved her conference doubles record to 2-0 by teaming with Lane Garber (Los Altos, Calif., Los Altos) to defeat Pratt's No. 3 pair, 9-7. Against a tough Pratt opponent, the first-year player fared well in singles play, losing by a slim 10-8 margin in her first-ever league match at No. 6 singles.

Fiordaliso becomes Sarah Lawrence's second-straight honoree for the award, following Garber's selection as the HVWAC Rookie last week.

In addition, sophomore women's volleyball player Kitty O'Sullivan (Los Angeles, Calif., Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy) and first-year cross country runner Pauline Stanfiel (South Bend, Ind., John Adams) were named to this week's HVWAC Honor Roll.

In the team's only match of the week O'Sullivan pounded out 14 kills in a 3-0 win over Pratt on Tuesday. The sophomore was the only player with double-digit kills in the match and dominated the second set with seven kills, one block and only one error.

On the trail, Stanfiel finished as the Gryphon's No. 2 runner for the third-straight week of competition. Racing against a strong field at the RPI Saratoga Invitational, the first-year harrier cut substantial time off her previous 5K pace.
