BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—The Gryphons made history in the pool on Saturday, as Sarah Lawrence College men's swimming picked up the program's first-ever dual win by defeating College of Mount Saint Vincent, 92-66, at Campbell Sports Center.
In the tri-meet format, Sarah Lawrence (1-1) also faced SUNY Cobleskill (3-1), falling 146-49. Cobleskill defeated CMSV (0-2), 125-64.
First-year swimmer
Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas, Aledo) posted the day's most impressive swims, breaking two school records in the process. He began the meet by completed the butterfly portion of Sarah Lawrence's 200 medley relay squad—swimming the fastest split in the race, including freestyle legs.
In the 200 yard individual medley, Martinez smashed the program record with a winning time of 2:06.12. His performance beat out the previous mark of 2:38.42 set in 2011. Later, Martinez won the 100 butterfly in a school-record time of 56.03, improving the prior best of 1:07.49 by a full 10 seconds.
Rookie
Paul Latislaw (Van Nuys, Calif., CHAMPS Charter) had an impressive swim in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall in 1:22.94 for second place.

Cameron Rudd (Portland, Ore.) and
Owen Marks (Pittsfield, Mass., Pittsfield) all scored for the Green and White.
“Overall, we did very well,” remarked Head Coach
Eric Mitchell. “We put some swimmers in different events for the first time, and they fared pretty well.”
The win marked the Gryphons' first in its brief history as a varsity team.
Sarah Lawrence next heads to face Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday in Newburgh, N.Y. for a meet starting at 1 p.m.
