BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—In nine matches, the Gryphons yielded only a single game, as Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis dominated visiting Vaughn College, 9-0, in a Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) match at Andrews Tennis Courts on Wednesday. The win improves Sarah Lawrence to 2-2 (2-0 HVWAC) on the season, while Vaughn slips to 0-2 (0-1 HVWAC).
In doubles action, Vaughn managed to win its only game of the day in the No. 2 doubles match. First-year player
Lane Garber (Los Altos, Calif., Los Altos) and sophomore
Katie Voss (San Rafael, Calif., West Salem (Ore.)) came out on top in the match with an 8-1 victory.
At No. 1 doubles, reigning HVWAC Player of the Week
Maddy Dessanti (Teaneck, N.J., Teaneck) teamed with senior
Nora Landes (Los Angeles, Calif., Cleveland/Humanities Magnet) to post an 8-0 shutout to earn a second point for the Gryphons. Sarah Lawrence picked up the No. 3 doubles match by forfeit.
Leading 3-0, Sarah Lawrence went on to sweep the singles matches by a flawless 10-0 margin at each position. Landes and Dessanti took care of the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches, respectively, while Voss and Garber handled the No. 3 and No. 4 positions.
Mary Kairidi (Thessaloniki, Greece, Anatolia College) rounded out the Gryphons' efforts with a 10-0 win at No. 5 singles, while Vaughn failed to field a player at No. 6.
Sarah Lawrence continues its homestand with its next match on Sunday, Sept. 23. The Gryphons host Brooklyn College on Andrews Courts at noon.
