NEW YORK—Four Sarah Lawrence College student-athletes have been honored in the latest edition of Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference weekly awards for the period ending October 6, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Women's cross country runner
Mary Kauffman (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) was selected as Player of the Week, while teammate
Natalie Grieco (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Fenwick) received Rookie of the Week honors.
Autumn Atkinson (Manasquan, N.J./George School) was named Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week, while
Addie Rosenberg (New York, N.Y./Fusion Academy) was tabbed Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week.
Atkinson posted a 4-0 week, winning a pair of singles and doubles matches in the Gryphons' 1-1 week. On Tuesday, Atkinson and partner
Juliet Slade (St. Paul, Minn./Central) shutout their No. 3 doubles opponents, and Atkinson blanked her opponent at No. 3 singles. Against HVIAC opponent Pratt, Atkinson and Slade improved their doubles record to 9-0, while Atkinson handed Carson Stanch her first singles loss of the season. Atkinson is a two-time Player of the Week and earns Rookie accolades for the second time this year.
For the third time in the last four meets, Kauffman posted a runner-up performance at the MSMC Knight Invite. Her time of 20:52 marked her second time this season below the 21-minute mark on a 5K course. In the final meters of the race, Kauffman triumphed in a three-way sprint, defeating opponents from SUNY Cobleskill and Union College by mere seconds. Kauffman's selection is her third of the year.
Grieco returned to form as the Gryphons' No. 2 runner this week and secured her second Rookie of the Week nod this season. She took 38th place in the field of 144 runners at the Mount Saint Mary Invitational, posting a mark of 23:32.
Rosenberg earned a complete-game shutout in SLC's 1-0 win over St. Joseph's this week. The first-year keeper stopped eight shots on goal to earn the program's first-ever win and shutout. She has accumulated 67 saves on the season. Her Rookie of the Week selection marks the program's first selection to a major HVIAC weekly award.
