BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—In the team's final home meet of the 2013-14 season, Sarah Lawrence College men's swimming split its meets in a double-dual at Campbell Sports Center on Saturday. The Gryphons lost to Mount Saint Mary College (3-2), 108-81, but defeated Brooklyn College (0-5), 106-93.

After the meet, seniors Doug Rubenstein (Los Angeles, Calif./Hamilton) and Luc Mitchell (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) were honored for their seasons of dedication and achievement with the SLC men's program.

The Gryphons set five new program records on the day, and with the win, Sarah Lawrence (3-1) achieved the program's most wins in its four-year history as a varsity program.

SLC started the meet with a record-setting victory in the 400 yard medley relay. Gryphons Jack Chu (Hong Kong/Irvington (Calif.)), Jericho Walker-Roberts (Ashland, Ore./Ashland), Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas/Aledo) and Rubenstein combined to complete the event in 4:03.13, a 15-second improvement over the team's previous best. As the lead-off swimmer, Chu also set an SLC record in the 100 backstroke, breaking the one-minute mark with a swim of 59.14 seconds.

Martinez stamped his name on the SLC record board for the 12th time by setting a new program best in the 400 yard individual medley. The sophomore touched the wall in 4:45.79 to win the event and better the previous mark by more than 30 seconds. In the next event, Martinez triumphed as a back-to-back victor, winning the 200 yard butterfly in 1:58.17.

In the 100 freestyle, rookie Chu showcased his sprinting prowess and gave the Gryphons their third-straight win with a swim of 50.95 seconds.

Despite finishing in third-place, Rubenstein broke his own SLC record in the 500 yard freestyle. The senior posted a time of 6:19.98 to better his 2011 record by 20 seconds. The record was the oldest on the team board, as the Gryphons have set records in all 19 events in the last 11 months.

Chu picked up the Gryphons' final win of the day by taking the 200 yard breaststroke in an SLC record time of 2:29.97.

Walker-Roberts earned SLC's only runner-up performance on the day; the rookie finished the 200 freestyle in a second-place time of 2:14.62.

Sarah Lawrence men's swimming now prepares for the Ranger Invitational, hosted by Drew University on December 6-8.
