ITHACA, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College swimmers broke six school records on the fourth and final day of the 2013 Upper New York State Collegiate Swim Association Championships, hosted by Ithaca College on Saturday. Four swimmers broke individual program records, while both the women's and men's 400 yard freestyle relay marks were bettered.

At the conclusion of the event, both squads finished in 13th place among a field of nationally-competitive teams. A total of 19 program records (11 women's, 8 men's) were broken during the four-day meet.

Sophomore Ariana Peschke (Topanga, Calif., La Reina) started the day by conquering her own record in the 100 yard freestyle. She swam a time of 54.11 seconds to earn a spot in Saturday evening's consolation final. In the evening session, she cut 0.25 second from her mark to finish in 53.86 seconds, earning her 10th place among a field of over 70 racers.

Jay Pulitano (Mountain Lakes, N.J., Mountain Lakes) swam the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:54.09 to take down the previous team record of 3:01.31 set in 2010, the oldest record broken on the day. In the same race, Natasha Leonard (Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i, Kealakehe) touched the wall in 3:01.02.

In the 1650 yard freestyle, Alexis Bates (Morristown, N.J., Morristown) completed the week's longest race in a time of 20:15.00, shattering her own team record by nearly 28 seconds.

The women's 400 yard freestyle relay saw Peschke, Bates, Leonard and Pulitano post a school-record mark of 4:07.68, a five-second improvement on the team's previous best. In the evening, the Green and White squad took a further four seconds from the time, finishing in 4:03.82 for 15th place.

In the final event of Saturday's preliminary session, Sarah Lawrence's men also broke their 400 yard free relay record. Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas, Aledo), Ned Bandera-Duplantier (Houston, Texas, Westfield), Cameron Rudd (Portland, Ore.) and Michael Turadek (Bronx, N.Y., HS for Environmental Studies) finished the race in 3:52.58 to take five seconds off of the squad's previous record. In addition, Martinez's opening 100 yard split of 49.28 signified a one-second improvement on his own record at that distance.

Saturday's evening session featured the Sarah Lawrence foursome lowering its record time to 3:51.53, earning 14th place in the process. Martinez further lowered his 100 yard split to 48.74.

Sarah Lawrence concludes the 2012-13 campaign having bettered 33 of the teams' 39 records this academic year. Since the season began in October, 17 of 19 men's records and 16 of 19 women's records were broken.
