Meet ResultsBRONXVILLE, N.Y.—By winning eight of the meet's 13 events, Sarah Lawrence College men's swimming took first place at the 2014 SLC Sprint Carnival at Campbell Sports Center on Saturday.
Sarah Lawrence (224 points) bettered Brooklyn College (179) and F.I.T. (126) to collect the Gryphons' first victory in their home invitational.
In the day's first event, sophomore
Jack Chu (Hong Kong/Irvington (Calif.)), junior
Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas/Aledo), sophomore
Nick Ransom (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) and rookie
Brendan McAlevy (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI Catholic) took first place in the 200 yard medley relay with a mark of 1:54.79, suggesting that the relay will eclipse the SLC record of 1:49.00 by season's end.
Martinez captured his first individual win of the day by taking first (2:06.44) in the 200 IM. Ransom collected sixth-place points in the event.
Chu responded by winning the 100 freestyle in a time of 50.66. Rookie
Andrew Kaufman (Merion, Pa./Delaware Valley Friends School) scored his first collegiate points by swimming to sixth in the race.
Sophomore
Michael Turadek (Bronx, N.Y./HS for Environmental Studies) won the Gryphons' fourth event in as many races by touching the wall first in the 50 backstroke. Senior
Owen Marks (Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield) followed in third place.
Chu and McAlevy returned to the water in the 50 breastroke, earning second and fourth place, respectively.
Martinez won the 100 butterfly in a time of 53.85, well over 20 seconds faster than his closest competitor. Ransom added more points to the SLC total with a fourth-place swim.
The 50 freestyle saw Turadek and sophomore
Amit Sankaran (San Francisco, Calif./Mallya Aditi International) reach the finish in third and fourth place.
Senior
Jay Pulitano (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) scored his first points of the day with a runner-up finish in the 100 backstroke, while Ransom placed fifth in the event.
In the 100 IM, Chu won his second individual event with a swim of 1:01.23. McAlevy collected his second fourth-place swim of the day.
Marks and Kaufman posted a fourth and fifth place finish in the 200 freestyle, adding 11 points to the Green and White total.
Martinez went 3-for-3 in individual events after securing the top spot in the 50 yard butterfly in 25.14 seconds. Ransom placed in his fourth individual event of the day, securing his best finish of third-place in the event.
Chu won his third event in the last individual race with a swim of 1:08.52 in the 100 breaststroke, less than two seconds off his own SLC record. Pulitano added fifth-place points in his second and last individual swim.
The final relay saw the Gryphons cap off the day in the 200 freestyle relay. The Green and White "A" team of Martinez, Chu, Marks and Owens earned second place, while the "B" squad of Sankaran, Pulitano, Ransom and McAlevy secured fifth place.
The Gryphons kick off their dual-meet schedule with a trip to SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, Nov. 8. The double-dual will also feature SLC's first-ever Skyline dual in a showdown against College of Mount Saint Vincent.
