NEWARK, N.J.—Sarah Lawrence College women's cross country concluded the 2014 season at the Nick Russo Halloween Classic, hosted by New Jersey Institute of Technology on Sunday, Nov. 2.
In the fun-run format, teams competed without scoring as a squad with many harriers opting to dress in costume to celebrate the holiday.
Senior
Elizabeth Emery (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) finished her collegiate career as the Gryphons' top runner, placing 24th in just under 24 minutes. Rookie
Katherine Shepard (Visalia, Calif./Mount Whitney) crossed the line at the same time for 25th, and both runners received post-race recognition among the day's top 30.
First year
Tiffany Meier (Goleta, Calif./Olive Grove Charter) crossed the line within 10 seconds of her season best, as did classmate
Nawshin Abanti (Dhaka, India/International School Dhaka).
Less than a quarter of a second separated rookies
Marisa Acosta (San Diego, Calif./Canyon Crest Academy) and
Georgia Cohen (New York, N.Y./UNC School of the Arts) in the last race of their first season, and rookie
Danielle Dyen-Shapiro (Estero, Fla./Cypress Lake) ended the year with a personal best run.
Sarah Lawrence will return to training in the spring season and is slated to run three races in April. The Gryphons will return to the trail in August 2015 with their next official race tentatively scheduled for Friday, Sept. 4.
