Match 1 | Match 2BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Rounding out a 3-0 weekend for the Gryphons, Sarah Lawrence College defeated a pair of non-conference opponents by a combined score of 17-1 this weekend. SLC beat former HVIAC rival St. Joseph's College Brooklyn, 8-1, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Saturday and then swept Bard College, 9-0, at home on Andrews Courts on Sunday.
After defeating Skyline foe Mount Saint Mary College, 6-3, on Friday Sarah Lawrence (5-4) had little trouble taking care of St. Joseph's Brooklyn (0-2) on Saturday. In doubles play, rookie
Sofia Reh (Villanova, Pa./Radnor) and sophomore
Sarah Pyatt (Taos, N.M./Taos) put the first team point on the scoreboard with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
At No. 3 doubles,
Moni Spancheska (Skopje, Macedonia/NOVA International) and
Arianna Cooper (Beltsville, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) dismissed their Lady Bears opponents, 8-2.
In the No. 1 doubles match, SLC's winningest duo, sophomores
Autumn Atkinson (Manasquan, N.J./George School) and
Juliet Slade (St. Paul, Minn./Central) were in danger of losing only the third match of their partnership. The Lady Bears led, 7-6, and were serving for the match, but the Gryphons fought off three match points and went on to win, 9-7.
Leading 3-0 after doubles, Spancheska and Slade quickly polished off their singles matches to clinch the team victory. While Cooper stumbled a bit, the top Gryphons of Atkinson, Reh and Pyatt handily won the top three singles spots to round out the 8-1 win.
On Sunday, the Gryphons shutout Bard (0-3), avenging a 7-2 loss in 2013.
Atkinson and Slade ran the table in an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles, while Reh and Pyatt duplicated the feat in their 8-0 shutout at No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, Atkinson came away with a 10-0 win in the top slot, while Pyatt also took every game of her 10-0 victory at No. 3 singles.
Reh and Slade cruised to victory in the No. 2 and No. 4 matches, each winning her first five games en route to a 10-2 win.
The Gryphons have won four of their last five matches. SLC's three-match winning streak is the team's longest since 2012.
After playing 6 matches in 9 days, Sarah Lawrence gets a short break before the Gryphons return to action on Wednesday when they host York College (N.Y.) at Andrews Courts at 6 p.m.
