SMITHTOWN, N.Y.-In the team's final race before the Skyline championship, Sarah Lawrence College men's cross country raced to ninth place at the 16th Annual St. Joseph's College Cross Country Invitational at Sunken Meadow State Park on Saturday.

BACK TO THE BEACH
Saturday's race was the Gryphons' first at Sunken Meadow since Oct. 22, 2010, when Laura Viegas led a trio of SLC runners in a time of 24:01.

REUNION OF TEAMMATES
Sarah Lawrence was led by senior Mary Kauffman (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) and junior Natalie Grieco (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Fenwick). Saturday's race marks the first time that the two competed together since 2013 after Kauffman missed the '14 season to study abroad and Grieco missed the first five races of '15 due to injury. Kauffman finished Saturday's 5K in 21:57 for 21st overall, while Grieco took 42nd in 22:55.

CONSISTENCY IS KEY
Rookie Isabel Edmonds (Appleton, Wisc./Appleton North) was the Gryphons No. 3 runner in 24:20, good for 66th place. Edwards has placed among SLC's top three runners in each of the team's six races this season. Fellow first year Molly Walsh (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) crossed the line in 86th at 25:25. Walsh was the team's No. 4 runner at Sunken Meadow, an improvement of three places from last week's race.

MAKING STRIDES
First year Katherine Labadie (New Orleans, La./Benjamin Franklin) took 95th in the race, stopping the clock at 25:42, a full 90 seconds faster than her previous 5K effort. Rookie Allyson Panton (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) placed 110th with a mark of 26:44, nearly a full minute improvement over her last 5K race. Sophomore Danielle Dyen-Shapiro (Estero, Fla./Cypress Lake) rounded out the team in 151st. Her time of 32:33 showed nearly a full minute of improvement better than her time at the Bard Invitational on Sept. 19.
