Men's Swimming Begins 2015-16 Campaign

Meet Results

HOBOKEN, N.J.—Sarah Lawrence College men's swimming began the 2015-16 season with a non-scoring meet hosted by Stevens Institute of Technology at the Charles V. Schaefer Athletic Center on Saturday.

IN SHORT
Non-scoring format
SLC wins two of 13 events

MARTINEZ WINS BUTTERFLY EVENTS
Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas/Aledo) won the first two individual races of his final season. In the 200 yard butterfly, he posted a time of 1:58.20 to win by 3.7 seconds. Martinez then was victorious in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.50 seconds, edging his Stevens opponents by 0.02 second. The senior Gryphon also took third in the 200 individual medley.

RANSOM RETURNS
Junior Nick Ransom (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) returned to the team as one of only two veterans on the young squad. Ransom competed in breaststroke, freestyle and butterfly events.

NUMEROUS NEWCOMERS
A flock of eight rookies made a collegiate debut in Saturday's meet. Highlighting their appearances, newcomer Dawa Lama (New York, N.Y./The Beacon School) finished as the Gryphons' top swimmer in both breaststroke events. In the 100 breaststroke, he touched the wall in 1:13.53, and in the 200 breaststroke, he stopped the clock at 2:43.05. Both efforts put him at No. 3 in the team's all-time performers in the respective events.

Rookie Anthony Lee (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) led the team in the 100 yard freestyle (51.62) and 50 freestyle (23.49). Like Lama, both of Lee's swims rank No. 3 in the program's top swimmers by event. Other notable rookie swims included efforts by Derick Edgren (Fort Collins, Colo./Auburn (Ill.)) in the 200 freestyle and Charles Allard (Fall River, Mass./B.M.C. Durfee) in the 100 backstroke; both times led the Gryphons in the respective events.

UP NEXT
Sarah Lawrence will begin a series of home events starting on October 31. The Gryphons host their annual Sprint Carnival on Halloween, and SLC takes to its home pool on the subsequent three Saturdays.
