NEW YORK-Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis players
Autumn Atkinson (Manasquan, N.J./George School) and
Juliet Slade (St. Paul, Minn./Central) have been named to the 2015 Skyline Women's Tennis All-Conference team, as announced by the league on Monday. Atkinson was named to the First Team, while Slade was selected to the Second Team.
Atkinson has been selected as a Skyline All-Conference player in both seasons since Sarah Lawrence joined the league in 2014. She was a second-team honoree last season but received enough votes to be selected to the first team in her senior season.
Atkinson led the Gryphons with nine victories this season, playing in the No. 2 position. The Gryphon went 6-1 in conference play and ended her career on a five-match winning streak. Atkinson finished her career with 28 singles wins, good for second all-time in the team's history book. She is also second on the career doubles list, winning 33 matches with doubles partner Slade. Atkinson was named Skyline Player of the Week on October 5, and was named to the Skyline Honor Roll twice this season. She is SLC's second woman and third student-athlete overall to earn Skyline first-team honors.
Slade's all-conference selection is the first of her career. The junior played the 2015 season at No. 4 singles and joined Atkinson in the No. 2 doubles position. Individually, Slade went 7-4 overall and 5-2 in Skyline action. Slade and Atkinson finished the season 9-4 in doubles play, including another five conference wins.
Slade, a junior, finished the 2015 season atop the program's career doubles wins leaderboard with 34 victories. Slade is 16-13 in her three seasons of singles play, three wins shy of breaking into the program's top-10. She was named Skyline Player of the Week on October 12, and was also named to the Skyline Honor Roll.
Backed by the efforts of Atkinson and Slade, Sarah Lawrence women's tennis became the College's first team to qualify for a Skyline postseason tournament. The team posted an 8-5 overall record, extending its streak of 14 seasons with a .500 record or better.
