BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—In a day that included the Gryphons' first-ever triple-double, Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball split its Skyline matches on Sunday at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center. SLC defeated Purchase College, 3-1, but fell to Maritime College, 3-0.

TRIPLE DOUBLEHistory was made by rookie
CJ Kelley (Las Vegas, Nev./Basic) against Purchase. Kelley set an SLC record with 11 service aces and contributed 21 assists and 12 digs, earning the Gryphons' first ever triple-double. All three marks are career bests, and she also totaled a season-best eight kills in the match.
KELLEY'S QUICK STARTKelley's record setting day began rapidly as the first year setter served up a 9-0 run to start the match against the Panthers. During the run, Kelley had a kill and four of her service aces, while junior
Monet Thibou (Brooklyn, N.Y./Elisabeth Irwin) added two kills and sophomore
Eleni Spentzouris (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) earned her first kill of the day. By the end of the 25-19 first set, Thibou contributed another kill and a service aces, while Spentzouris chipped in an ace. Junior
Yolanda Lyne Cando (Arlington, Va./H-B Woodlawn) and rookie
Seven Green (Akwesasne/Frank Sinatra Sch. of the Arts) each had two kills in the set. Kelley and
Hanna DeLoe (Stamford, Conn./CGS at Brien McMahon) also split a block for the Gryphons.
STAYING CALMSarah Lawrence gave up a 6-0 Purchase run early in the second set but responded with a 7-0 rally. The Gryphons led 21-16 before the Panthers struck back, but SLC held on for the 25-23 set. Spentzouris scored six points in the frame on three kills and three aces. Kelly added four more aces and a kill, while Cando led the squad with four kills and recorded a solo block. Green had three kills in the set, and Thibou had two kills and an ace.
PANTHERS RESPONDA 7-0 Purchase run provided an ominous start to the third set. SLC kept fighting and tied the score at 16-16, but the Panthers ran away with nine of the final 10 points in a 25-17 set. The Gryphon offense was muted in the set, totaling eight offensive points. Thibou had two kills and an ace, while Green also pitched in a pair of kills. Kelley and Cando had a kill apiece, and Spentzouris notched a service ace.
CLOSING OUT THE MATCHPurchase led the match at 13-10, but Sarah Lawrence came back with an 8-1 rally to take the lead for good; SLC clinched victory with the 25-19 set. Kelley polished off a career match with five kills and four aces in the set. Cando contributed two aces and a kill, while Spentzouris was good for a kill and an ace. Thibou tossed in two kills and Green rounded out the offense with a kill in the set.
HELPING OUTKelly assisted 21 Gryphon kills, good for a season best. Green also set a new collegiate best, reaching double figures with 10 assists.
ON DEFENSEIn addition to Kelley's team-high 12 digs, libero
Marie Richter (Chemnitz, Germany/St. Andrew's School) tallied a season-best seven digs. Cando picked up a season-best seven digs to go with a best of eight kills. Spentzouris complemented her season-high six aces and five kills with a best of five digs. Thibou tossed in four digs to go with her career best nine kills.
AGAINST MARITIMEAside from a 3-0 Gryphon lead early in the third set, the Privateers were in control for much of their sweep. Nine Maritime errors helped the Gryphons rack up 21 points in the middle frame. Spentzouris and DeLoe each had two kills and a service ace in the second stanza, while Green and Thibou chipped in a pair of kills. For the match, Kelley led the Gryphons with four kills, two service aces and eight digs while sharing SLC's only block with DeLoe. Richter totaled six digs,
Helen Song (Shenzhen, China/Shenzhen Foreign Language) earned her first dig, and
Ilana Wharshavsky (Paris, France/American International Sch. (Israel)) served up her first collegiate ace.
