Monet Thibou (Brooklyn, N.Y./Elisabeth Irwin) landed her first service ace of the season.
REGAINING COMPOSURESLC turned things around in the second set, winning the first three points. The Gryphons capitalized on a pair of quick NJCU errors, and
Seven Green (Akwesasne/Frank Sinatra Sch. of the Arts) had an early kill. After Skyline Rookie of the Week
CJ Kelley (Las Vegas, Nev./Basic) put down a kill to tie the match at 5-5, the Gothic Knights began to pull away. SLC stayed within reach at 12-10, but a 4-0 NJCU run was the beginning of the end in the 25-18 set.
IN THE THIRDSarah Lawrence took a 5-4 lead early in the would-be final set, but NJCU stormed back. Green had three kills in the frame, while Kelley added two. Junior
Yolanda Lyne Cando (Arlington, Va./H-B Woodlawn) notched her fourth kill of the day in the 25-17 set.
THE DIFFERENCE MAKERThe Gryphons struggled to control the serve of the Gothic Knights, as the visitors racked up 25 aces against only eight errors. Rachel McIntyre led the match with 10 aces, adding 21 assists for a double-double.
GRYPHON LEADERSGreen led the Gryphons with five kills, followed by Cando's four. Kelley was limited to a nine assists, adding three kills and a season-best four digs. In her collegiate debut, sophomore
Eleni Spentzouris (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) notched her first service ace, while at the net, Kelley had her third block of the season.
