NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Sarah Lawrence College softball team took the field for the first time since May 1, 2019, competing in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic on Sunday afternoon.
Two games were on the docket for the Gryphons on their first day of the tournament. SLC faced Medaille College in the early game, falling to the Mavericks 6-0. Later in the day, Sarah Lawrence faced off against the University of St. Joseph. The Blue Jays took the game 11-3 in five innings.
GAME 1
Three first inning runs from the Mavericks created an early hole for the Gryphons. Medaille added two more runs in the second inning.
Bailey Nguyen threw a scoreless third, fourth, and fifth inning, fanning three hitters. Nguyen also recorded the first hit of the season for SLC, spoiling a no-hitter in the bottom of the seventh with a single to right field.
Game 2
St. Joseph put up nine runs in the first two innings. Sarah Lawrence got one back in the fourth inning.
Alison Thorson tallied the first RBI of the season for the Gryphons, driving in
Alexa Zartman-Ball. Zartman-Ball ended the day with two runs scored, crossing the plate again in the fifth inning on an error after reaching base on an RBI single of her own that drove in
Hannah Akin.

The Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic continues on Tuesday, March 15 when the Gryphons clash with a pair of Pennsylvania-based schools. SLC faces Muhlenberg College at 11:30 a.m. then plays Keystone College at 5:30 p.m. Both games can be streamed at gogryphons.com
