Meet ResultsBRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Despite a close points race early in the meet, Sarah Lawrence College women's swimming was outdone by William Paterson University, 112-90, at Campbell Sports Center pool on Wednesday.
Sarah Lawrence (3-2) was boosted early by a record-breaking swim in the 1000 yard freestyle by sophomore
Alexis Bates (Morristown, N.J., Morristown). Bates bettered her own school record in the event by nearly three seconds to clinch an exciting come-from-behind win with a time of 12:13.99, besting her opponent by nearly three seconds. Bates went on to take second place in the 500 yard freestyle, nearly missing her own school record as she was out-touched by her Pioneer rival.
Sophomore
Ariana Peschke (Topanga, Calif., La Reina) had another successful outing by picking up wins in the 50 freestyle (26.36) and 100 freestyle (56.39).
In the 100 butterfly,
Sam Amberchan (Menlo Park, Calif., Menlo-Atherton) posted a season-best time of 1:14.17, marking the best performance by a Gryphon in the event this season.
Sophomore
Jay Pulitano (Mountain Lakes, N.J., Mountain Lakes) also made major contributions to the team, posting the Green and White's best marks in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke while participating in the team's second-place medley relay foursome.
Though William Paterson (5-3) only won four of the first seven events, the Pioneers picked up critical second-place and third-place points to pull away and clinch the win after the ninth race of 11.
Sarah Lawrence hosts its final meet of December on Friday. The Gryphons will play host to Bard College and Purchase College at Campbell Sports Center at 7 p.m.
