Softball Gets One on the Board at Season Opener Against CNR

Bronxville, NY - March 9, 2012

    Women's Softball lost to the College of New Rochelle, 1-14, in its season opener at home today on the Mary LeVine Field. Sophomore pitcher Kevyn Wills had a solid performance despite the runs scored, which resulted mainly from a new team just getting its footing in its first game. With just two returners and five first years on the roster of nine, Head Coach Adriana Durso, who is also in her first season with the Gryphons, truly has a rebuilding year on her hands.

   Durso was pleased that the game ended on a high-note as the Gryphons went into the bottom of the fifth without a run scored. But following senior third baseman Lauren Stein (Redmond, Wash./Redmond)'s solid hit down the middle to get on first, junior Nour El Rayes (Beirut, Lebanon/American Community School at Beirut) smacked her first ball of the season into the infield, taking first and bringing Stein home.

   The Gryphons next home game will be on April 3, when Sarah Lawrence faces Purchase College at 4pm.
