BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—In the team's penultimate home meet of the season, Sarah Lawrence College women's swimming bested SUNY College at Old Westbury, 138-57, at Campbell Sports Center on Thursday.
Prior to the meet, the Gryphons' lone graduating senior,
Emma Casey (Chicago, Ill., Whitney M. Young Magnet), was honored in a brief ceremony.
After Sarah Lawrence (5-3) pulled away with a one-two finish in the opening relay, sophomore
Alexis Bates (Morristown, N.J., Morristown) picked up a victory in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 12:42.06, winning by a margin of more than two and a half minutes. Bates later went on to win the 500 yard freestyle with a performance of 6:18.73.
Gryphon rookie
Ariana Peschke (Topanga, Calif., La Reina) swam away with the 200 yard freestyle, winning in 2:12.08. She later touched the wall first in the 100 yard backstroke, stopping the clock at 1:03.64.
In the 50 freestyle, first-year swimmer
Addie Sun (Plano, Texas, Plano) took first place with a swim of 31.92 seconds. A victorious
Jay Pulitano (Mountain Lakes, N.J., Mountain Lakes) followed in the next event, winning the 200 individual medley with his effort of 2:36.71.
Rookie
Sam Amberchan (Menlo Park, Calif., Menlo-Atherton) triumphed in the 100 yard butterfly with a swim of 1:15.74.
Natasha Leonard (Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i, Kealakehe) rounded out the Gryphons' individual winners with her performance of 1:26.55 in the 100 yard breaststroke.
Old Westbury (2-7) closed out the meet with a redeeming swim, besting the Green and White 200 free relay squad by 0.09 second.
Sarah Lawrence looks forward to its final home meet against St. Joseph's College Brooklyn on Saturday at 3 p.m.
