Women's Swimming Clinches Perfect HVWAC Record

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—
The Gryphons clinched their fourth-straight league undefeated season, as Sarah Lawrence College women's swimming defeated St. Joseph's College Brooklyn, 106-79, in a Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference meet at Campbell Sports Center on Saturday.

With the win, Sarah Lawrence (6-3, 2-0 HVWAC) preserved its streak of conference victories dating back to the 2008-09 season.

Sophomore Jay Pulitano (Mountain Lakes, N.J., Mountain Lakes) picked up the Gryphons' first individual win with a victory in the 1000 yard freestyle, touching the wall in 13:12.10. He also posted the fastest time in the 100 yard breaststroke with a mark of 1:21.31.

Rookie Gryphon Sam Amberchan (Menlo Park, Calif., Menlo-Atherton) triumphed in the 200 yard freestyle with a performance of 2:29.59. She later won the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 1:14.65.

Sarah Lawrence sprinter Ariana Peschke (Topanga, Calif., La Reina) captured first place in the 50 yard freestyle with a swim of 26.73, and doubled up in the 100 yard backstroke by stopping the clock in 1:05.08.

First-year swimmer Monika Mednick (Menlo Park, Calif., Menlo-Atherton) came away with a win in the 100 yard freestyle. She finished the race in 1:10.23, besting her closest competition by 2.5 seconds.

Sophomore Alexis Bates (Morristown, N.J., Morristown) posted the day's top time in the 500 yard freestyle, clocking in at 6:10.91.

In the opening relay, Peschke, Natasha Leonard (Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i, Kealakehe), Pulitano and Bates lifted the Gryphons to a win in the 200 yard medley. The meet concluded with the Green and White squad of Meg Trask (San Jose, Calif., Piedmont Hills), Amberchan, Addie Sun (Plano, Texas, Plano) and Mednick posting the fastest time in the 200 yard freestyle relay.

Lady Bear Morgan Summers (Bellerose, N.Y., St. Mary's) picked up an individual win in the 200 yard individual medley for St. Joseph's (2-4, 0-1 HVWAC). In addition to several runner-up swims, the visitors closed the scoring margin late in the meet, while the Gryphons picked up the comfortable win.

Sarah Lawrence returns to action next weekend, when the Gryphons travel to Brooklyn College on Saturday, January 26.
