Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—In the Gryphons' first games of the season, Sarah Lawrence College softball was swept by College of Staten Island, 12-0, 16-1, in a pair of non-conference, five-inning games at CSI Softball Complex on Tuesday.

Staten Island (2-3) took control of the first game when the Dolphins brought eight runs across the plate in the first inning. The hosts scored another run in the second inning, two in the third and one more in the fourth to rack up 12 runs against the Gryphons.

Sarah Lawrence (0-2) put its first batter of the season on base as Hannah Gordon (Denver, Colo., George Washington) reached on an error to left field. Sophomore Hayley Adams (Dover, N.H., Berwick Academy) picked up the first Green and White hit of the year with a lead-off single to center field in the top of the third inning.

In the second game, Dolphin Victoria Procopio (Staten Island, N.Y., St. Joseph Hill) hit a two-run homer in the first to help Staten Island to a 5-0 lead after one.

The second inning saw Sarah Lawrence rookie Lauren Gray (Sea Cliff, N.Y., Waldorf School of Garden City) and junior Ciaran Rhodes (Haddon Township, N.J., Haddon Township) hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, and senior Nour El Rayes (Beirut, Lebanon, American Community School at Beirut) batted in the Gryphons' first run of the season, scoring Gray on a fielder's choice.

The Dolphins expanded the 5-1 lead to 10-1 after two and tacked on six more runs in the 16-1 decision.

Offensively, the Green and White were consistent in getting the ball in play, falling on strikes only six times in the doubleheader. Rookie pitcher Rebecca Kuntz (Northridge, Calif., Chaminade College Preparatory) gave up only one walk in her collegiate debut, throwing two complete games for Sarah Lawrence.

For the Dolphins, Procopio won the opener with three strikeouts and one hit in five innings pitched. Brittany Smith (Staten Island, N.Y., St. John Villa) earned the win in the second game, yielding one earned run, a wild pitch and two hit batters on three strikeouts in five innings.

Sarah Lawrence returns to Bronxville for its home opener on Wednesday as the Gryphons host Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) College for a twin bill scheduled for 4 p.m.
