Softball Downed by Dallas

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College softball was defeated by University of Dallas, 18-0 and 27-0, in a non-conference doubleheader at Mary LeVine Field on Saturday.

In game one, Dallas (3-21) scored its first two runners of the game and opened up a 6-0 lead after two innings. In the third inning, Erin Begle and Christy Allen lofted back-to-back home runs over the fence. The Crusaders extended the lead to 16-0 after four innings and scored two more in the fifth inning.

Dallas pitcher Nicole Frazier was working on a no-hitter with two outs in the fifth inning, but Gryphon Haley Adams singled to record the only Green and White hit of the game.

Rookie pitcher Rebecca Kuntz (Northridge, Calif., Chaminade College Preparatory) had five strikeouts for the Gryphons, while Frazier notched nine K's.

In the second game, the first three Crusaders reached base, and Taylor Garcia hit a grand slam, her first of two home runs in the game, for a 4-0 lead. Dallas put the game out of reach with 13 runs in the next two innings and scored 10 more runs in the 27-0 victory.

For Sarah Lawrence (0-11), Leslie Martinez (Mission Viejo, Calif., Trabuco Hills) reached base on a walk in her first at-bat. Hannah Gordon (Denver, Colo., George Washington) notched a hit in the third inning, while Kuntz singled in the fourth.

Gryphon pitcher Anhad Hundal (New Delhi, India, Vasant Valley School) had two strikeouts in the game, while Frazier recorded her second strikeout with seven strikeouts.

Sarah Lawrence and Dallas square off again on Sunday with games beginning at noon and 2 p.m. at Mary LeVine Field.
