BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Though the Gryphons put a run on the scoreboard in each of the two games, Sarah Lawrence College softball was swept by John Jay College of Criminal Justice, 11-1 and 16-1, in a non-conference doubleheader at Mary LeVine Field on Thursday.

In game one, John Jay (9-14-1) started the scoring with five runs in the top of the first inning. Junior Kalyssa Daley hit a solo-homer in the second frame, as the Bloodhounds scored two in the inning for a 7-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second inning, Sarah Lawrence (0-13) was able to capitalize on a pair of John Jay errors. Sophomore shortstop Tori Himes (Boulder, Colo., New Vista) reached on a throwing error and was eventually brought home on a shot by rookie pitcher Rebecca Kuntz (Northridge, Calif., Chaminade College Preparatory).

After a scoreless third inning, John Jay expanded the lead to 10-1 with a three-run fourth inning.
In the bottom of the fourth, first-year player Lauren Gray (Sea Cliff, N.Y./Waldorf School of Garden City) (Sea Cliff, N.Y., Waldorf School of Garden City) hit a blooper that fell just out of reach of the center fielder, erasing the no-hitter of John Jay right-hander Sarah McKenna. John Jay tacked on one more run in the fifth inning to earn the 11-1 victory.

For Sarah Lawrence, Kuntz finished with three strikeouts against two walks and only three earned runs. McKenna tossed three strikeouts with two walks, one hit and no earned runs.

In game two, Sarah Lawrence held the Bloodhounds scoreless in the top of the first inning. Sophomore Hannah Gordon (Denver, Colo., George Washington) and classmate Himes led off with back-to-back singles. The duo showcased their speed on a successful double-steal, scoring Gordon from third to take a 1-0 Gryphon lead.

John Jay responded quickly, scoring five runs in the top of the second inning. The Bloodhounds kept their momentum and tallied 11 runs on 11 hits in the next two innings, including a two-run homer by senior Kaylee Fry.

The Bloodhound defense kept the Gryphons without a hit for the remainder of the game, as John Jay completed the two-game sweep, 16-1.

McKenna had six strikeouts with one earned run in game two. Sarah Lawrence pitcher Anhad Hundal (New Delhi, India/Vasant Valley School) finished her fourth complete-game of the season.

Sarah Lawrence heads to play at Brooklyn College on Saturday before returning home to host York College (N.Y.) for a doubleheader Sunday at noon.
