BROOKLYN, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College softball concluded its last full weekend of regular season play with doubleheader losses to College of New Rochelle and St. Joseph's College Brooklyn. The Gryphons fell to the Blue Angels, 15-7 and 11-10, on Friday before being toppled by the Lady Bears, 13-1 and 8-0, on Sunday.
Sarah Lawrence (0-25, 0-2 HVWAC) squared off against CNR in the teams' final Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference game on Friday. College of New Rochelle (5-24, 1-1 HVWAC) was first to score as the hosts picked up two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Green and White answered with a three-run second inning, capitalizing on six bases on balls.
The Blue Angels retook a 4-3 lead with two runs in the bottom of the second, but the Gryphons responded with four runs in the top of the third, earning a 7-4 lead without any hits in the inning.
While Sarah Lawrence held CNR scoreless in the bottom of the third, New Rochelle regained momentum with 11 runs scored in the last two innings. CNR shut down the SLC batters to hold on for the 15-7 win.
Sarah Lawrence scored its seven runs on four hits.
Hayley Adams (Dover, N.H., Berwick Academy) had a pair of runs in the game, going 1-for-1 from the plate with two walks, while
Ciaran Rhodes (Haddon Township, N.J., Haddon Township) added two runs after walking in each of her three plate appearances.
SLC pitcher
Rebecca Kuntz (Northridge, Calif., Chaminade College Preparatory) had only six earned runs against her, striking out four batters against one walk. CNR's hurler
Christine Biskup had four strikeouts but gave up 14 bases on balls and seven earned runs.
In game two against CNR, Sarah Lawrence capitalized on three Blue Angel errors and a hit by
Amanda Kelly (Brooklyn, N.Y., Brooklyn Sch. for Collaborative Studies) to score three runs in the top of the second inning for a 3-2 lead.
Jen Patten (Canandaigua, N.Y., Naples) singled early in the third inning as the Gryphons tacked on two more runs and led 5-3 through three innings.
In the top of the fourth,
Lauren Gray (Sea Cliff, N.Y., Waldorf School of Garden City) and
Leslie Martinez (Mission Viejo, Calif., Trabuco Hills) led off the inning with back-to-back singles, and Gray came home on a wild pitch. After Kuntz walked, Adams and Kelly took turns with RBI singles. Another two runs scored on errors in the inning as the Gryphons posted five runs on the scoreboard for a 10-3 advantage, their largest of the season.
The Blue Angels were not prepared to be dismissed silently, however, and CNR picked up four runs on five hits in the bottom of the frame. SLC was held scoreless in the fifth, but New Rochelle scored three, tying the game at 10-10.
Sophomore Gryphon
Hannah Gordon (Denver, Colo., George Washington) made a run for the plate in the top of the sixth but couldn't make it home safely. CNR answered by getting its eighth-straight run across in the bottom of the inning for an 11-10 advantage.
While Gray led off the seventh with a walk, the Blue Angels dismissed the next three Gryphons in order, and CNR secured the victory.
Kuntz went 1-for-2 from the plate with three runs and three walks. From the bottom of the order, Kelly was 3-for-3 on the game, batting in two runs while rounding the bases once.

Anhad Hundal (New Delhi, India, Vasant Valley School) was dealt the loss in game two, having tossed four strikeouts against four walks.
Tanika Charles earned the win with three K's against 10 walks.
On Sunday, Sarah Lawrence wrapped up its weekend by facing St. Joseph's Brooklyn (14-13-1, 2-0 HVWAC). Gordon led off game one by reaching on a Lady Bears error and came home to score the opening run of the game.
St. Joseph's retorted with a three-run first inning and seven runs in the second.
Andrea Sideli hit a three-run homer in the third inning, as the Lady Bears handily secured the 13-1 no-hitter victory.
Kuntz was held without a strikeout for only the fourth time in 17 appearances this season.
Jackie Perillo had five strikeouts in four innings, while reliever
Danielle Marino finished off the final frame with a strikeout and a walk.
Game two saw both defenses dismiss straight batters in the first inning, and Gryphon
Tori Himes (Boulder, Colo., New Vista) singled for the game's first hit in the second inning. Sarah Lawrence kept the game close, trailing only 3-0 after four innings, but a five run Lady Bears fifth inning clinched the game for the hosts.
Morgan Summers ended the game with a walk-off, two-RBI triple.
Hundal tossed her eighth complete game of the season for Sarah Lawrence.
Mabel Vargas earned the win for St. Joseph's, tallying two strikeouts and one hit in the shutout.
Sarah Lawrence is expected to conclude its regular season with a makeup game against College of New Rochelle, tentatively planned for Friday. On Sunday, the Gryphons host the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Softball Championship tournament beginning at 10 a.m. at Mary LeVine Field.
