Bates, Harley and Risica Named to All-HVIAC Team

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.—Following the conclusion of the 2014 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Swimming Invitational on Sunday, the league announced the members of 2014 All-HVIAC Swimming Team. Sarah Lawrence College swimmers Alexis Bates (Morristown, N.J./Morristown), Colette Harley (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) and Gabby Risica (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett) were among the nine women honored by the league.

Bates showcased her dominance in the distance events by winning her third-straight conference title in the 1000 yard freestyle. She also won the 1000 free and 500 freestyle in both of the team's HVIAC dual meets this season. The junior was also a part of the Gryphons' 200 Free Relay, winning a title in the event for the second straight season. She was selected as a HVIAC Player of the Week on Nov. 26.

Harley, a two-time HVIAC Player of the Week and three-time HVIAC Rookie of the Week, won four events at the 2014 HVIAC Invitational. After swimming the butterfly leg of the Gryphons' winning 200 medley relay, she picked up individual wins in the 100 butterfly and 500 free. Harley rounded out the meet as the lead-off leg in SLC's victorious 200 yard freestyle relay.

Fellow rookie Risica was a HVIAC Player of the Week and two-time Rookie of the Week honoree this season. She was also a four-time champion at the 2014 HVIAC Invitational, beginning the day with the backstroke leg in the team's winning 200 medley relay. Risica earned wins in both sprint events, touching the wall first in the 50 free and 100 free. She swam anchor leg in the triumphant Green and White 200 yard free relay.
