Meet Results
COBLESKILL, N.Y.—Picking up a win in the team's first Skyline meet, Sarah Lawrence College women's swimming defeated College of Mount Saint Vincent, 138-37, at Bouck Hall Natatorium on Saturday. The Gryphons also lost to host SUNY Cobleskill, 132-97, in the double dual format.
Sarah Lawrence (1-1, 1-0 Skyline) came out triumphant its debut in the Skyline. The Gryphons previously competed in the HVWAC/HVIAC and were five-time defending champions prior to departing the league.
SLC began the meet with a win in the 400 yard medley relay. Sophomore
Gabby Risica (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett), first year
Hannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School), senior
Sam Amberchan (Alameda, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) and sophomore
Jacqueline Quirk (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) combined for a winning swim of 4:36.89, eight seconds off the team's record in the event.
Lawson also won both of her individual events. She touched the wall first in the 200 yard freestyle (2:10.76) and broke her own SLC record in winning the 100 breaststroke (1:14.44). For her efforts, Lawson earned Skyline Rookie of the Week honors for the second-straight week.
Senior
Alexis Bates (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) also came away as a two-event victor. She bested the field by 16.5 seconds in the 500 free (6:13.56) and won the 1000 freestyle (12:39.22) by nearly 40 seconds.
After winning the relay, Risica posted a pair of runner-up performances. She took second place in the 50 free (27.79) and 100 backstroke (1:12.43).
Amberchan took second place in the 100 butterfly (1:15.43), edging out her third-place opponent by half a second. She also took third-place points in the 200 individual medley (2:46.66).
Quirk followed up her relay win with a second-place in the 100 free (1:01.50) and a fourth-place showing in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.04).
SLC's win was sealed when
Sonia Abraham (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte),
Sky Mihaylo (Albany, Ore./West Albany),
Brenna Rice (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam Central) and
Zoe Berg (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale) picked up valuable points in the 400 freestyle relay. While the squad finished behind the Fighting Tigers, the Gryphons earned a full complement of 11 points in their scoring against CMSV.
Elizabeth Kroll (Sacramento, Calif./The Met Sacramento),
Lydia Mullan (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) and
Sarah Schnapp (Taiwan/Tzu Chi) each contributed valuable points to the team, earning a fourth place and a fifth place in their respective races.
Rachel Barkowitz (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) rounded out the scoring by adding six points for the Gryphons.
In the day's other contest, Mount Saint Vincent (0-4, 0-3 Skyline) fell to Cobleskill (3-1) by a score of 175-34.
Sarah Lawrence next travels to face Skyline opponent Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.) on Saturday, Nov. 15.
