Meet ResultsNEWBURGH, N.Y.-The Gryphons were held to wins in three events but broke two team records, as Sarah Lawrence College women's swimming fell to Mount Saint Mary College, 113-87, in a Skyline meet at Kaplan Recreation Center on Saturday.
Sarah Lawrence (1-2, 1-1 Skyline) took an early lead by winning the 400 yard medley relay in record fashion. Sophomore
Gabby Risica (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett), rookie
Hannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School) and sophomores
Colette Harley (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) and
Jacqueline Quirk (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) combined for a time of 4:28.49 for first place in the race. The foursome edged the previous SLC record by .01 second.
The Green and White "B" squad of
Rachel Barkowitz (Dedham, Mass./Dedham),
Sky Mihaylo (Albany, Ore./West Albany),
Lydia Mullan (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) and
Brenna Rice (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam Central) added third-place points in the event to give SLC a 13-4 advantage.
Senior distance specialist
Alexis Bates (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) was held to third place in the 1650 free, while Mihaylo was fourth, as Mount Saint Mary College (3-1, 2-0 Skyline) closed the gap to 18-17.
Harley and
Elizabeth Kroll (Sacramento, Calif./The Met Sacramento) scored third and fourth-place points in the 200 freestyle, surrendering the lead to MSMC.
In the 50 free, Risica picked up a victory by .01 second, clocking in at 27.11. Skyline Rookie of the Week Lawson followed a second later in third place.
Though MSMC won the 400 individual medley, junior
Sam Amberchan (Alameda, Calif./Menlo-Atherton), Barkowitz and senior
Sonia Abraham (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte) scored points by securing second through fourth place.
SLC regained the lead after the 200 butterfly. Harley touched the wall first in 2:29.57, while Mullan's third-place points gave the Green and White a 56-51 edge.
MSMC went ahead for good after the next event. In the 100 free, SLC sprinters Quirk and Risica were relegated to third and fourth place. MSMC again took the top two spots in the 200 backstroke, while Amberchan, Kroll and rookie
Sarah Schnapp (Taiwan/Tzu Chi) rounded out the scoring positions.
Bates, Abraham and Rice banked six points in the 500 yard freestyle, taking the last three scoring positions.
Lawson gave the Gryphons their second record of the day, posting a time of 2:39.27 in the 200 breaststroke. Lawson now controls both SLC breaststroke record. Quirk took third in the race, while Barkowitz swam to fifth place.
In the day's final event, SLC was beat out in the 400 freestyle relay. Schnapp, Kroll, Bates and Amberchan combined for second place, while the day's final points were scored by
Zoe Berg (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale), Rice, Abraham and Mullan.
Sarah Lawrence returns home to host Maritime College and St. Joseph's College Long Island on Friday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m.
